Singapore Airlines Extending KrisFlyer Miles Expiry
Good news for those who have KrisFlyer miles that will be expiring between January and June 2021.
In an email sent by Singapore Airlines (SQ) to KrisFlyer members with miles expiring during the aforementioned period, the airline announced such expirations will be extended by 6 months. This is great because KrisFlyer miles typically expire 3 years after they are earned (possible to extend once by paying), meaning it’s a ‘use it or lose it’ type of program regardless of program activity.
In view of the Covid-19 outbreak, we will be extending the validity period of your KrisFlyer miles by six months, and they will now expire between July 2021 and December 2021 respectively. For example, KrisFlyer miles expiring on 31 January 2021 will now be valid until 31 July 2021 after the extension.
It is still very much a tossup on whether international travel will return to normal enough to use KrisFlyer miles for redemptions even by late 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I myself will be sitting on the sidelines with my KrisFlyer miles and will wait and see if the miles will be further extended come second half of 2021.
