Both Air Canada and WestJet launched new sales today. Yes they are trying to raise cash due to the pandemic, but the deal is relatively solid, with 25% off base fare in all cabins.

As usual with these two airlines: monkey see, monkey do. Air Canada and WestJet usually have sales in tandem, with one carrier copying matching the other. The only difference is the 11:59pm booking deadline, which for Air Canada is based on the departure city, while for Westjet it’s simply Mountain Time.

On paper, it appears Air Canada’s sale is more restrictive, but that’s not really the case, because with the exception of Air Canada’s Santiago–Buenos Aires fifth freedom route, all flights operated by either airline will depart from or arrive in Canada.

There are similar deals from other airlines these days, with Etihad Airways headlining a 30% off saver awards sale (although it doesn’t beat the 33% off deal earlier), and major US airlines offering $14 airfares.

Whether these are good deals or not, I leave it up to you to decide. As we all know, COVID-19 is here to stay for some time to come, there are many travel restrictions which will remain in place as well as massive uncertainties regarding future travel – even into June next year.
